Comparing
Light
Emitting Diodes and Incandescent Light Bulbs
The
primary advantage of converting incandescent lighting to light
emitting diodes (LEDs) is the considerable reduction in power
consumption. LEDs use a fraction of the power used by incandescent
bulbs.
However,
when
comparing LED lighting to a regular incandescent filament lamp there
are a couple of issues to consider.
The first is that for general lighting, a single LED is not
as bright as an incandescent lamp.
This
is normally solved by grouping several LEDs together to
reach the desired light output while still consuming far less power
than equivalent incandescent lighting. For example, in an LED
traffic signal, the number and positioning of numerous singular LEDs
provides a unit light output far greater and with better overall
performance than the standard incandescent light bulb.
Steelebrook Flightlights utilize the multiple LED approach to
produce a single high intensity light source that far surpasses the
output of the typical 12 volt incandescent light bulb in aircraft. And
this is achieved with a fraction of the power required for the equivalent
incandescent light bulb.

solution for aircraft interiors.
FlightLights Easy
Light
Overhead Plug-In Lighting Unit for Grumman AA5
Series Aircraft
If you fly your Grumman AA5
series aircraft at night, you know that the original overhead
cockpit/cabin lighting leaves a lot to be desired. We have the
perfect solution! Just replace the original miniature incandescent
light bulbs and outer panel with the Steelebrook Easy Light Overhead
Lighting Unit in about 5 minutes.

innovation in Grumman aircraft interior lighting.
Grumman AA5 Map Light
Replacement LED & Housing
This unit replaces the existing gooseneck map light
& housing on late AA5 Series Grumman Aircraft with a 4 LED
assembly seated in an aluminum housing with a polyolefin
covering. Very simple installation.

for the Grumman AA5-A & B series.
LED Flashlights in
Red, Green, Blue or White

These 4 LED flashlights are the base for our Goose
Light and Easy light systems and are great for aviation use, in and
out of the cockpit. They have polished aluminum housings and
heads and operate on 3 AA batteries (included). They turn on
and off by twisting the head.

ClipLight LED
Clip-On Lights in Red,
Green, Blue or White

These clip-on LED lights are perfect for all-around
lighting and are especially useful in the cockpit for auxiliary and
emergency lighting applications. The heavy duty 8-position ratchet
clip provides 360 degree positioning and clips to just about
anything including hat visors, watch bands, eyeglass frames &
clipboards. The light is bright and clean and the included lithium
battery provides power that lasts a long, long time.

Science Behind the
Scenes
The year was 1905
- 100 years ago. A young patent office clerk in Switzerland named Albert
Einstein published no less
than five scientific papers that included molecular theory breakthroughs,
the Special Theory of Relativity and the most famous math equation in
history - E=mc2, where matter and energy are interchangeable at the atomic
level - the essence of nuclear energy. These
papers literally blew the lid off the contemporary
science of the day and forever changed the way we think about the
universe.
One of the papers
described how light traveled in bundles we call
"quanta". This is the foundation of quantum physics and
eventually earned Einstein the Nobel prize.
How does this relate
to the products on this page? Well, quanta is the essence of light-emitting
diodes (LEDs). When
electrons in a semiconductor diode travel from one side to another, they
shift to a less excited state and release energy in the form of photons. When
these photons are focused into a beam, a bright, clean and efficient light
is produced. Because
light emitting diodes are solid state devices, they have a longevity that
far surpasses conventional lighting.
Incidentally,
Einstein was only 26 years old in 2005. Thanks for your contribution
to LEDs Albert.
